This workshop is a 3-hour-long intensive breakdown of the basics of networking and has a solid cybersecurity angle to it. Students learn the types of networks, network devices, network topologies, and key terminologies and move on to TCP/IP and OSI models with an emphasis on their security concerns. Hands-on activities with Cisco Packet Tracer enable the participants to create networks, to set IP addresses, observe the behavior of TCP and UDP and learn about protocols functioning. The fundamental cybersecurity notions such as generic network threats, firewall concepts, and network segmentation are also presented in the workshop with the help of simulation-based controlled demonstrations. It is evaluated using multiple-choice and scenario- based questions, which are used to guarantee conceptual clarity and practical knowledge.
